Orange City Tulip Festival Family-Friendly FunColorful tulips fill the parks, children and teens dance, sing, and scrub streets in beautiful Dutch costumes, the local band marches in wooden shoes, art abounds along the Avenue, and music fills the air. The 67th Annual Tulip Festival in Orange City, Iowa is a celebration of the best of small-town America – May 17, 18, 19, 2007 – a chance to enjoy the Dutch heritage of this charming village. The event provides upbeat entertainment and activities for the entire family, with something for everyone from children to seniors.
Tulip Festival 2007 is also a rich introduction to the arts: music, drama, plus multiple visual arts. “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” is a Broadway musical offering frolicking fun for young and old, while “Sioux Center Sudan,” is an inspiring play by the award-winning Theatre Department at Northwestern College, with free admission. The Native American musical group, Brule´ – honored at the 8th Annual Native American Music Awards – drew large crowds in 2006 and praise for their culture-bridging contributions to a celebration of heritage (brulerecords.com). Brule´ performs Music on the Green at free concerts in conjunction with the 26th Annual ArtBurst – a celebration of fine art. This juried exhibit and sale represents richly varied media by artists from across the Midwest.
New in 2007 are two photo exhibits: “Sioux County Folk,” features local photographer Doug Burg introducing people from the region engaged in everyday life. “Dutch Connections: Portraits and Landscapes from Orange City,” by Dutch-born New York City photographer Rene Clement, explores the juxtaposition of Dutch and American cultures with fondness and humor. Photos by Clement have been published in Time, the New York Times, and M Magazine (reneclement.com). For information go to: octulipfestival.com (712-707-4510).
