This year’s ArtBurst will feature 18 artists from the surrounding states who will be exhibiting and selling their work at this year’s Tulip Festival.

ArtBurst will take place on Friday, May 15th, and Saturday, May 16th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the grounds of the Sioux County Courthouse. ArtBurst is free and open to the public to attend. Artists this year will be exhibiting a wide variety of media, including photography, jewelry, ceramics, paintings, hand-blown glass, fiber arts, mixed media, woodworking, and metalworking. “ArtBurst is a great opportunity for visitors to experience the artistic talent from the area and see what might speak to or delight them,” says Alex Tharp, chair of the ArtBurst committee. “Joining us this year are four new artists, including Kaylee Maasdam, who has been invited by the Tulip Festival Steering Committee to paint scenes from the festival’s iconic events in honor of the 85th anniversary.”

ArtBurst is a juried exhibition, with best-in-show cash prizes awarded for both two-dimensional and three-dimensional work. Serving as this year’s juror is Phil Scorza of Orange City.

Phil Scorza is a Full Professor and Chair of the Department of Art and Design at Northwestern College in Orange City, IA, where he teaches fine art, graphic design, and photography. He has an MFA in Visual Arts from Lesley University College of Art and Design in Cambridge, MA. He also attended Iowa State University and graduated with a BA in Graphic Design. He has exhibited his artwork in 10 states and Korea.
