Road Closures the week of May 12-17
As we prepare for the 2026 Tulip Festival, we want to share important information regarding updates to the parade route and access for those who live and work within this area.

Following a safety concern during last year’s festival, we are implementing additional measures to better protect both our community and the many visitors who attend. At several locations along the parade route, we will use concrete barricades. Our previous barricade system did not adequately prevent vehicles from driving around or through restricted areas, creating unsafe conditions during peak festival times.
To improve safety and reduce confusion, vehicle access within the parade route will be limited and more clearly defined. There will be one designated entry and exit point for those who need access to this area during restricted times. A detailed map showing barricade locations and the designated access point will be provided to help you plan accordingly.
Barricades will be set in place on Tuesday, May 12, and limited vehicle access will start on the morning of Thursday, May 14.
We understand that these changes may cause inconvenience, particularly for businesses operating within the parade route. Please know that we carefully considered these adjustments and would prefer to keep all areas fully accessible if it were safe to do so. However, ensuring the safety of pedestrians, participants, volunteers, etc. will remain our top priority.
These barricades will be similar to those used during RAGBRAI in Orange City this past summer. That system proved to be effective in managing traffic and maintaining a safe environment, and we are confident it will serve us well during the Tulip Festival.
We sincerely appreciate your patience, flexibility, and partnership as we implement these changes. Your cooperation is vital to creating a safe, welcoming, and successful Tulip Festival for our entire community and the thousands of guests who visit each year.
